چکیده
Objective—To determine whether an anti-Salmonella bacterium is involved in control of pathogen load in persistently infected cattle herds. Animals-24 Holstein calves experimentally infected and 39 Holstein cows naturally Infected with Salmonella spp. Procedures—An Escherichia coil (designated as F8E5) that possessed anti-Salmonella activity was isolated from Salmonella-negative bovine feces obtained from a herd with endemic Salmonella infection. In vitro analysis involved enumerating Salmonella enterica serovarTyphimurium coincubated with E coil P8E5. In vivo analysis involved coadministration of Salmonella spp and E coil P8E5 or an E col/control strain to neonatal Holstein calves. Fecal samples were collected on multiple days after inoculation, and quantitative PCR assay was performed by use of Salmonella-specific primers. Results—E coil P8E5 reduced viability of Salmonella spp in vitro. Shedding of Salmonella organisms was diminished in calves administered F co/i P8E5, whereas the control strain of E co/i had no effect on shedding of Salmonella organisms. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance—In this study, an E colt strain was identified that possessed bacteriocin-like activity and was able to decrease viability of Salmonella organisms in vitro and in vivo. Therefore, it is possible that this organism could be representative of native microbiota that dampen Salmonella spp in persistently infected cattle herds. (Am J Vet Res 2000;70:92-98)

Application of bacteriophages to control Salmonella Enteritidis in raw eggs
Background: Salmonella, a bacterial genus of more than 2500 serotypes is considered as the most significant foodborne pathogen causing infections in humans and animals. Increased antimicrobial resistance and persistence of antimicrobial residues in food matrices warrants the need for alternative infection management strategies. Aims: The present study aimed to isolate and evaluate the lytic act...

Salmonellais a foodborne zoonotic enteric bacterium able to infect both humans and animals. This study aimed to identify the antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella serovars isolated from human, cattle, and poultry. Moreover, we investigated the probable transmission trends of antibiotic-resistant Salmonella isolates from food animals to human. A total of 242 Salmonella isolates collected from v...
متن کاملPersistent bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infection in cattle herds
Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a significant pathogen associated with gastrointestinal, respiratory, and reproductive diseases of cattle worldwide. It causes continuous economic losses to the cattle industry primarily due to decreased reproductive performance. The ability of virus to cross the placenta during early pregnancy can result in the birth of persistently infected (PI) calves. P...

Background and Aim: Salmonella Typhi belongs to the family Enterobacteriaceae, gram-negative bacilli and causes gastrointestinal diseases such as typhoid. This bacterium has a special structure and various genes, including the ompf gene (outer membrane protein). Recent studies have shown the possibility of using ompf in the development of a diagnostic tuberculosis vaccine. Therefore, the aim of...

Background and Objective: Salmonella typhi is one of the major challenges for the human and animal health. Salmonella with high pathogenicity can be harmful factor for human health. The control of this pathogen is a big challenge as it can cause serious infectious diseases such as gastroenteritis, septicemia and typhoid fever. On the other side, there are many factors such as toxin-antitoxin (T...
